Power-Saving Measures (2011)
The MEDIPAL Group will take proactive measures to save electricity across the entire organization in response to the nationwide electric power shortage.
To cope with the recent power shortages, large-scale users with contracts to use more than 500kW will be required to reduce their power consumption by 15 percent during peak demand hours under Article 27 of the Electricity Business Act. The restriction applies to customers in the service areas of Tohoku Electric Power Co. and Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO). Smaller-scale users, mainly businesses, offices and households, are also being asked to voluntarily cut their power consumption by 15 percent. In addition, there are concerns about the stability of electric power supplies in the service areas of other power companies.
The MEDIPAL Group is responding to this situation with proactive measures to reduce its electricity consumption by 15 percent as a whole, led by the Electric Power-Saving Committee established at consolidated subsidiary MEDICEO CORPORATION. Measures include adjusting lighting and air conditioning and reducing use of electronic and electrical equipment.
Education on ways to save electricity will also be implemented at MEDIPAL Group companies to encourage employees to reduce power consumption not only on the job but also at home.
