Power-Saving Measures[MEDICEO CORPORATION]
In response to the recent nationwide electric power shortage, MEDICEO CORPORATION will take the proactive measures outlined below to save electricity in all areas, branch offices and buildings.
To cope with the recent power shortages, large-scale users with contracts to use more than 500kW in the service areas of Tohoku Electric Power Co. and Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) will be required to reduce their power consumption by 15 percent during peak demand hours under Article 27 of the Electricity Business Act. Smaller-scale users, mainly business offices and households, are also being asked to voluntarily cut their power consumption by 15 percent. In addition, there are concerns about the stability of electric power supplies in the service areas of other power companies.
MEDICEO will respond to this situation to reduce its electricity consumption by 15 percent during peak demand hours, led by the Electric Power-Saving Committee it established on April 21, 2011.
MEDICEO will also provide education on ways to save electricity to encourage employees to reduce power consumption at home as well.
Power-Saving Target
Reduce electricity consumption by 15 percent during peak demand hours in all areas, branch offices and buildings.
Implementation Period
June 20, 2011 – September 30, 2011
Key Initiatives to Save Electricity
(1) Lighting
- Strictly ensure lights are turned off in areas that are not in use.
(2) Air-conditioning
- Set temperature at 28°C in office areas (may be raised a little higher than 28°C depending on aspects of the indoor environment such as ventilation).
- Shut off air-conditioning in areas that are not in use (employee break rooms, meeting rooms, etc.).
- Adjust outdoor air intake to reduce ventilation power consumption and heat load.
- Remove obstacles around the outdoor units and keep them out of direct sunlight.
- Be sure to keep service entrance doors closed to prevent outflow of cool air.
(3) Education on saving power
- Select people to be in charge of power-saving, hold follow-up meetings attended by the responsible managers (president, facility director, etc.) and members of relevant departments, and conduct power-saving patrols.
- Provide information to employees on the necessity and methods of saving power at home.
(4) Other measures
- Set power demand monitoring system below the target level and implement predetermined power-saving measures when the alarm sounds.
- Reduce power loss by conducting appropriate and regular maintenance of facilities and equipment.
- Check temperature settings in storage areas, and set temperatures at an appropriate level that does not affect product quality.
- Check temperature settings in refrigerated areas, and set temperatures at an appropriate level that does not affect product quality.
- Limit use of elevators.
- Reduce the number of vending machines.
- Limit use of electric water jugs.
