Mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS) Awareness Event held for employees

On May 15, International MPS Awareness Day, the MEDIPAL Group held a disease awareness activity for its employees to deepen their understanding of MPS. This activity consisted of two parts: a quiz event for headquarters employees and a charity walk event. It was a valuable opportunity to raise awareness about MPS and share the importance of supporting patients and their families.

Quiz Event for the headquarters employees (Held on May 15)

On May 15, International MPS Awareness Day, we held an event for headquarters employees. Approximately 50 employees participated and learned about the basic knowledge of MPS, the latest treatment approaches, and the challenges faced by patients and their families.

The event featured a "Team Quiz Competition" on MPS-related topics as an engaging way to deepen understanding of the disease. The announcement of each correct answer was met with cheers from participants, reflecting their strong interest in MPS.

Part of the comments from our employees are as follows:

"Participating in the disease awareness quiz event showed me how much I still need to learn about MPS. While it's difficult to understand everything perfectly, I felt it's important to first take an interest and gradually deepen knowledge, even little by little."

"I learned that the lengthy process to reach a definitive diagnosis and the importance of starting treatment from an early age have a major impact on prognosis. Through this, I strongly felt the importance of early diagnosis and the significance of disease awareness activities."

Charity Walk Event (Held on May 24)

On May 24, we conducted a charity walk event in Tokyo. Approximately 20 employees participated, walking 6km from Kyobashi to Motomachi Wellness Park over the course of about 2 hours.

The Medipal Group continuously implements charity walk events as part of our "Future Children" initiative.

The theme for this event was to consider "What can society, companies, and individuals do for young carers (sibling caregivers) and MPS patients (children with medical care needs)?" while walking toward the goal. Participants exchanged ideas on this theme during the walk, deepening their consideration of the support they could provide from their respective standpoints.

The final destination, Motomachi Wellness Park, includes support rooms for children with medical care needs and the Tokyo Rare Disease Consultation and Support Center. After arrival, participants shared the current situation of MPS, children with medical care needs, and their siblings, then engaged in discussion. Through walking, participants gained a valuable opportunity to reflect and share opinions with each other.

Part of the comments from our employees are as follows:

"I felt it was important to face social issues through such opportunities and share them with people around us. I would like to continue participating in charity walks going forward."

"I thought it was important to recognize the situations of young carers, sibling caregivers, and children with medical care needs. As an individual, I would like to support children in having the right to make their own choices and develop the ability to choose."

"I strongly felt that society and companies need initiatives to broaden opportunities. This includes establishing environments where people can work even with illnesses and building systems that enable diverse working styles."
